Autumn Florals | Altenew Inked Flora

October 11, 2020 Sidelle Menon 16 Comments

Hey there!

I've seen a lot of white embossed flowers all over the internet for a while and was always intrigued by it. I finally decided to try it out using my favorite stamp set by Altenew - Inked Flora. I once again used autumn colors on my card inspired by the color theme at My Favorite Things Color Challenge 150.

After heat embossing the florals in white on a piece of watercolor paper, I colored them using a bunch of products like watercolors, distress inks and detailed it with my sketch pens. For the background, I used the Antique Linen distress ink to create a light wash.

After arranging the florals, I added a sentiment from Essential Sentiments by My Favorite Things and finished off the card with a few sequins.

You're Stinkin Cute | Lawn Fawn

September 29, 2020 Sidelle Menon 15 Comments

Hey there!

I always love to incorporate scraps/supplies that I have had for years and my quilling strips are one of them. Jennifer McGuire Ink has been one of my favorite crafters and from one of her videos, I got inspired to use the strips for the background.

I stamped a bunch of sentiments from the Essential Sentiments stamp set by My Favorite Things onto a few strips using my distress inks as I do not own any other colored inks.

I decided to use the current sketch at MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge. After placing the sentiments on the background, I glued them and added a strip of vellum to create a band at the top.

I later stamped the cute fox from the Stinkin Cute Stamp set by Lawn Fawn onto some watercolored paper and colored it with my distress inks. Added a few details with a white gel pen and fussy cut it out.

To finish it off, I heat embossed the sentiment from the same sentiment in white and assembled the fox, sentiment, and a white heart using some foam squares.

Coloring with Sketch Pens | DCAM Critter Sheets

September 23, 2020 Sidelle Menon 16 Comments

Hey there!

I have been checking out different types of floral images apart from hand-drawn and stamped images and I came across the lovely critter sheets by Die Cuts and More. I ordered the Ready to color Wild Roses one a few months ago to try it out.

Initially, I tried watercolors but since it's not printed on watercolor paper, the colors just seeped in and I did not like the result. Then I tried painting with my distress inks and got the same result. I was annoyed and decided to not work on it for a while.

I was cleaning my table after finishing a project and saw my stash of sketch pens that I have had for years, probably 10+ years, and thought of trying them on the critter sheet. The next morning I tried coloring one of the flowers and loved how vibrant it looked!

I colored two flowers in yellow, orange, red, a bit of brown, and the leaves in shades of blue. I used a dark background so that the colors of the elements could pop out and distressed the edges with some torn jeans distress ink.

After arranging the elements, I glued them down and added a sentiment heat embossed in white from Essential sentiments by My Favorite Things. Finished the card with a few black Pearl Drops from Little Birdie by Itsy Bitsy.

Sending Love & Hugs | Altenew Adore You

September 22, 2020 Sidelle Menon 25 Comments

Hey there!

For a very long time, I have been meaning to try coloring images by ink blending using distress inks. I finally got my hands on the distress ink sponges and decided to make this card.

I blended out the picked raspberry, salty ocean, and mowed lawn distress inks onto some scrap white paper. Next, I heat embossed a bunch of flowers and leaves from the Altenew Adore You stamp set over the blended backgrounds.

I sprayed some water to get a nice effect and fussy cut all the elements. I had this lovely die-cut that I got from ShylaShree through a giveaway and put that in the center of my card.

It took me some time to arrange the flowers to get the final look and once I was pleased with it, I stuck it to the card base using some foam tape. Added the sentiment from the Essential Sentiments stamp set by My Favorite Things and finished off the card once again with a few sequins.

You're a Blessing | Altenew Inked Flora

September 20, 2020 Sidelle Menon 23 Comments

Hey There!

Today's card features once again my favorite - Altenew's Inked Flora set. I wanted to work with a different color palette and decided to make it colorful.

I stamped the flowers onto some watercolor paper by Anupam with VersaMark ink and coated it with silver embossing powder. First, I added a light wash of each color to a section of the flower. Once dried, I added a second slightly darker wash and I thought that It would suit it.
However, I wasn't happy with the result so I left it aside for a while and stamped two different sentiments - a blessing from the same set and you're by My Favorite Things onto black cardstock.
After some time, I decided to add some shading to the flowers using watercolor pencils and then a darker shade of the same color using the Itsy Bitsy Watercolor range. Finished off the card with a strip of silver glitter cardstock and a few sequins.

Fall Colors | Altenew Adore You

September 18, 2020 Sidelle Menon 26 Comments

Hello there!

It's been a while since I have posted something. The weather in my city has been changing drastically every day. We don't really experience fall but that didn't stop me from creating a fall-themed card.

I've always loved the idea of Fall - Warm tones, Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc. Today's card features one of my recent purchases - Altenew's Adore You stamp set.

I have been trying out various coloring techniques for the last few weeks but didn't like any of them. After a hundred tries, I really loved this one and decided to use it on my card.

I decided to include warm tones for the background. Stamped the flower multiple times onto some watercolor paper by Anupam Stores. Colored the flowers using my distress inks - festive berries, spiced marmalade, and scattered straw. Used Vintage Photo Distress Ink for the background and added some gold outliner over the top to get some shine.

After gluing down the card, I heat embossed the sentiment from the Essential Sentiments set by My Favorite Things in white. Added a piece of vellum and few sequins to finish off the card.

I'm entering this card for the following challenges:

2) Creative Fingers Challenge #193.

3) Crafty Sentiments - Anything goes challenge

Spread Love, No Room for Hate | Altenew Inked Flora | Z-Fold Card

July 01, 2020 Sidelle Menon 30 Comments

Hello everyone,

I hope you all are doing well! I turned 22 last month and decided to celebrate it by opening my online store! To check out the types of cards that are available, you can click on the tab - SHOP at the top of my home page. To know how to place an order for other products, click on the tab - HOW TO SHOP?

I took a short break from crafting just after my birthday to relax for a while. Today's card features my favorite stamp set once again!

I decided that the last card of the month had to be PRIDE related! Since I always stick to the classic card shapes, I decided to make a Z-fold card. I tried a bunch of ways to get the pride colors on my flowers and loved this one the most!

I stamped the flowers and leaves on the watercolor paper by Anupam stores and colored them with my Little Birdie watercolor set.

For the card base, I used black cardstock and followed a tutorial on Youtube to get the required shape. To add a subtle effect, I added sheets from my old notebook. After arranging the flowers in my preferred arrangement, I added the sentiment from the same set!

Pastel Floral Card | Altenew Inked Flora

June 18, 2020 Sidelle Menon 16 Comments

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well!

I have always been in awe of pastel flowers as they look so subtle yet elegant. However, I have been equally scared of trying them out as it can tend to look a bit plain. When I saw the current challenge at Color Throwdown and If You Give A Crafter A Cookie, I decided to give it a go!

The card features just three colors - pink, aqua, and gold. First, I stamped the flowers and leaves by Altenew's Inked Flora set (Favourite flower stamp set) and heat embossed it in gold. I colored the embossed images in Worn Lipstick and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks by Tim Holtz.

I took a lot of time to figure out the background for the card. I tried a lot of styles but settled on these gold diagonal stripes which I drew with my gold marker. For the sentiment, I heat embossed it in gold, cut it into a banner, and added a strip of gold glitter paper around the edges.

I tried a few placements and settled on this one. I finished off the card by gluing everything down and drawing a gold border around the edges to get everything together. I really loved how elegant the card looks!

Colorful Florals | Altenew Inked Flora

June 12, 2020 Sidelle Menon 41 Comments

Hello everyone,

Recently I purchased a few art supplies as it had been a while since I made a purchase. I had been eying the gorgeous Inked Flora stamp set by Altenew for a while now and finally got my hands on it.

I have been meaning to paint flowers in the colors of the rainbow but I was skeptical as to how would the colors mix, would I get any unwanted shades, etc.

So I decided to take it easy at the start and paint every petal with a separate color. I painted the flowers with my Little Birdie Half pan Watercolours set by Itsy Bitsy, do expect a review soon!

I heat embossed the sentiment from the same stamp set with silver embossing powder by Little Birdie. Added a few splatters of black paint and a few silver sequins to finish off the card. This card is among my most favorite projects of the year!

I loved playing with the stamp set, be sure to see many projects in the upcoming days!

Mini Book Covers Card

June 10, 2020 Sidelle Menon 27 Comments

Hello everyone!

A Little Reading is All the Therapy a person needs sometimes.

Today I decided to try out something different. While casually going through my bookshelf, I remembered checking out these cute little mini books at a bookstore a while ago. I instantly decided to incorporate them in today's card as it's something that everyone loves!

I recycled old wedding cards for all of the books and the background as well. The background is made with strips of vintage book paper. I distressed the edges with my vintage photo distress ink and archival jet black in and added a few splatters of white and black colors. The sentiment is from the wrapping paper of a bookstore!

I took the entire day to make this card but I really loved the outcome and it's a perfect greeting for my dad on fathers day as he loves reading!

Even though I'm not a novel fanatic, I really love the covers, especially of the classics!

My favorite miniature is The Alchemist, what about you?

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

June 09, 2020 Sidelle Menon 13 Comments

Hello everyone!

There are a lot of summer project challenges going on right now so I decided to start making summer cards even though it is the monsoon season here in India! Whenever I think of Summer, I always remember having Lemonade (Nimbu soda) to quench my thirst as summers in India can get really harsh at times.

I got inspired by a lovely orange slices background pin on Pinterest. Once I drew the lemons on a piece of watercolor paper by Anupam stores, I colored them with my Itsy Bitsy professional watercolors.

For the background, I used my watercolor pencil in the shade green to get that rough finish. The sentiment is the transparent letter stickers by American Crafts. I had to finish off the card with my white 3D Pearl drops again.

Clean & Layered Bright Colors Card

June 08, 2020 Sidelle Menon 7 Comments

Hello there!

Today I am back with a Clean and Layered card inspired by the current challenge at The Card Concept and the sketch at Hero Art's Challenge.

I recently purchased the professional watercolors set by Itsy Bitsy and decided to use it for the card.

I colored the background panels with colors black and sky blue. The rectangle is colored with dark blue. Then I distressed the edges to give it a nice edge with my distress inks.

Next, I doodled the butterfly and colored it with pink, orange, brown, and crimson. The sentiment is from an old magazine and I finished the card with a few black 3D Drops again by Itsy Bitsy.

Bright Florals Mixed Media Card

June 05, 2020 Sidelle Menon 25 Comments

Hello everyone!

Today I decided to upcycle an old card and book cover to create this Mixed Media bright-colored card inspired by the colors and pattern at The Card Concept's latest challenge.

The background is made with 3-4 different shades of blue and purple acrylic paints. The flowers and leaves are hand-drawn and painted with acrylic paints. All the acrylic paints that I use are from Camlin as they're high quality, affordable and easily available in my city.

I doodled with a black marker, added some shadows with sketch pens, and 3D Pearl Drops by Little Birdie Crafts for the flower center. Finished off the card with a few blue sequins and white splatters.

A Yo-Yo card

May 24, 2020 Sidelle Menon 17 Comments

Hey everyone,

The 90's kids played with a lot of cool toys and yo-yo's were one of them. A yo-yo is a toy consisting of an axle connected to two disks, and a string looped around the axle, similar to a spool. It is played by holding the free end of the string known as the handle, allowing gravity to spin the yo-yo and unwind the string. When I saw the current challenge at the butterfly challenge, I was pumped up to make this card. The colors are inspired by mood board at Altenew. Stamps used are Peony Scrolls and the sentiment is by Wplus9. Stencil is Mini Punchinela by The Crafters Workshop. Added a butterfly sequin the yo-yo end.

Instant Recycled Christmas Card

May 22, 2020 Sidelle Menon 23 Comments

Hello everyone!

Recently, I won the April Technique Challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and was invited as a guest designer for their upcoming challenge.

The challenge is:

Since its an embossing challenge, I was a bit hesitant at the start as I do not own any Christmas stamps nor dies. While going through my stash of old Christmas cards, I found one card which gave me an idea for an instant Christmas card. Along with some Christmas patterned paper from an old pack, I glued down the image to create this fun grid look. I heat embossed the edges of the patterned paper to get a nice gold effect that would match the colors of the image. I love making such instant cards as they are so versatile and at the same time I get to recycle old cards!

You can check out more details of the challenge here!
