Pastel Floral Card | Altenew Inked Flora

June 18, 2020 Sidelle Menon 16 Comments

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well!

I have always been in awe of pastel flowers as they look so subtle yet elegant. However, I have been equally scared of trying them out as it can tend to look a bit plain. When I saw the current challenge at Color Throwdown and If You Give A Crafter A Cookie, I decided to give it a go!

The card features just three colors - pink, aqua, and gold. First, I stamped the flowers and leaves by Altenew's Inked Flora set (Favourite flower stamp set) and heat embossed it in gold. I colored the embossed images in Worn Lipstick and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks by Tim Holtz.

I took a lot of time to figure out the background for the card. I tried a lot of styles but settled on these gold diagonal stripes which I drew with my gold marker. For the sentiment, I heat embossed it in gold, cut it into a banner, and added a strip of gold glitter paper around the edges.

I tried a few placements and settled on this one. I finished off the card by gluing everything down and drawing a gold border around the edges to get everything together. I really loved how elegant the card looks!

Colorful Florals | Altenew Inked Flora

June 12, 2020 Sidelle Menon 41 Comments

Hello everyone,

Recently I purchased a few art supplies as it had been a while since I made a purchase. I had been eying the gorgeous Inked Flora stamp set by Altenew for a while now and finally got my hands on it.

I have been meaning to paint flowers in the colors of the rainbow but I was skeptical as to how would the colors mix, would I get any unwanted shades, etc.

So I decided to take it easy at the start and paint every petal with a separate color. I painted the flowers with my Little Birdie Half pan Watercolours set by Itsy Bitsy, do expect a review soon!

I heat embossed the sentiment from the same stamp set with silver embossing powder by Little Birdie. Added a few splatters of black paint and a few silver sequins to finish off the card. This card is among my most favorite projects of the year!

I loved playing with the stamp set, be sure to see many projects in the upcoming days!

Mini Book Covers Card

June 10, 2020 Sidelle Menon 27 Comments

Hello everyone!

A Little Reading is All the Therapy a person needs sometimes.

Today I decided to try out something different. While casually going through my bookshelf, I remembered checking out these cute little mini books at a bookstore a while ago. I instantly decided to incorporate them in today's card as it's something that everyone loves!

I recycled old wedding cards for all of the books and the background as well. The background is made with strips of vintage book paper. I distressed the edges with my vintage photo distress ink and archival jet black in and added a few splatters of white and black colors. The sentiment is from the wrapping paper of a bookstore!

I took the entire day to make this card but I really loved the outcome and it's a perfect greeting for my dad on fathers day as he loves reading!

Even though I'm not a novel fanatic, I really love the covers, especially of the classics!

My favorite miniature is The Alchemist, what about you?

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

June 09, 2020 Sidelle Menon 13 Comments

Hello everyone!

There are a lot of summer project challenges going on right now so I decided to start making summer cards even though it is the monsoon season here in India! Whenever I think of Summer, I always remember having Lemonade (Nimbu soda) to quench my thirst as summers in India can get really harsh at times.

I got inspired by a lovely orange slices background pin on Pinterest. Once I drew the lemons on a piece of watercolor paper by Anupam stores, I colored them with my Itsy Bitsy professional watercolors.

For the background, I used my watercolor pencil in the shade green to get that rough finish. The sentiment is the transparent letter stickers by American Crafts. I had to finish off the card with my white 3D Pearl drops again.

Clean & Layered Bright Colors Card

June 08, 2020 Sidelle Menon 7 Comments

Hello there!

Today I am back with a Clean and Layered card inspired by the current challenge at The Card Concept and the sketch at Hero Art's Challenge.

I recently purchased the professional watercolors set by Itsy Bitsy and decided to use it for the card.

I colored the background panels with colors black and sky blue. The rectangle is colored with dark blue. Then I distressed the edges to give it a nice edge with my distress inks.

Next, I doodled the butterfly and colored it with pink, orange, brown, and crimson. The sentiment is from an old magazine and I finished the card with a few black 3D Drops again by Itsy Bitsy.

Bright Florals Mixed Media Card

June 05, 2020 Sidelle Menon 25 Comments

Hello everyone!

Today I decided to upcycle an old card and book cover to create this Mixed Media bright-colored card inspired by the colors and pattern at The Card Concept's latest challenge.

The background is made with 3-4 different shades of blue and purple acrylic paints. The flowers and leaves are hand-drawn and painted with acrylic paints. All the acrylic paints that I use are from Camlin as they're high quality, affordable and easily available in my city.

I doodled with a black marker, added some shadows with sketch pens, and 3D Pearl Drops by Little Birdie Crafts for the flower center. Finished off the card with a few blue sequins and white splatters.
